About Ruth

My approach to landscape photography is experimental and innovative. I work in a way that is free of conventional constraints, allowing me to travel and make images with lightness and spontaneity.

At home in North Yorkshire the coastline, moors, woodlands and gardens provide ever-changing inspiration for creative and abstract image-making.

In the clear light and air of the Hebrides I find peace and solitude within elemental seascapes, colourful dreams, and intimate macro details.

Often lost in another world, I aim to capture spirit rather than actuality, to reflect the way I experience, remember and interpret the landscape in its myriad moods.

Steve Gosling taught me the technique of intentional camera movement to create an impressionist image in-camera - it is a method that seems to suit very well my style of working and is a gift to my yearning for creative self expression.

The unique works of Valda Bailey and  Sandra Bartocha are endlessly inspiring, and the exploration of and experimentation with multiple exposure techniques, often combined with ICM, add an extra dimension in my photography.
